GREAT FALLS, Mont. – A double dose of family ties has brought two more players to the 2018 Recruiting Class for University of Providence men's hockey. A pair of brothers, Brendan and Liam Sedgwick, coached by the father of current UP assistant coach
Chris Kaufman, have agreed to join the new Argo program.
The older Sedgwick, Brendan a 5-11 center/left winger has spent the last two years as a member of East Texas Baptist University's hockey program, which began in 2016. The Tigers compete in the AHCA Division II, the same league UP will join in 2018-19, and Brandan has already proven to be an effective scorer at that level.
During his freshman year, the program inaugural season, Brendan was fourth on the team in goals, scoring 5 times with 1 assist. Those numbers went up in 2017-18 with him scoring 7 goals with 4 assists. Brendan showed an extra dose of clutch, with 3 of those 7 goals being game winners.
Before playing for ETBU, Brendan played for the Tacoma Rockets Midget AA team, a program coached by Rob Kaufman, winning the Midget AA Washington State Championships in 2015.
Liam Sedgwick, the young of the two, is also an alumnus of the Tacoma Rockets, and like his brother, led the team to a state title. He also played for the Everett Jr. Silvertips U18 AAA team in the North American Prospects Hockey League.
In 25 games with the Silvertips, Liam scored 3 goals with 9 assists. He also was a member of Team Washington in the most recent America's Showcase.
The Sedgwick brothers are the first players coached by Rob Kaufman to sign with the college team now being coached by his son. With the signing of the brothers, UP's first men's hockey recruiting class has 12 incoming members.
