Alan Cress

Alan Cress is entering his 11th year as the assistant men’s and women’s track and field coach. In his time thus far Cress has revolutionized the throwing program for the Argos. In his tenure his athletes have set, and reset, every school record in the throwing events. 

At Providence, 33 of his throwers have qualified for the NAIA National Track & Field Championships, with four reaching All-American honors. In the last three years Cress has mentored nine individual Frontier Conference Champions and 31 all-conference performances. 

Prior to his collegiate coaching career, Cress was an assistant high school track and field coach from 2007-2012. In his high school coaching career, he mentored six state champions, and 16 individual top-six state finishers.  

In his collegiate throwing career Cress was a three-year letter-winner in track and two-year letter winner in football at Emporia (Kan.) State University. He is also a 4-time National Champion as a USA Masters Track and Field throws pentathlon competitor.  

Cress is a member of the National Throws Coaches Association, USA Track and Field - Montana, and the Montana Coaches Association. He holds certifications with the MHSA Coach Education Program, NAIA Champions of Character, United States Center for SAFESPORT and has also earned a State of Montana Class 2 Teaching License for K-12 Physical Education and Health. Cress completed his M.S. in Organizational Management at the University of Providence in the Fall of 2016.
