Schlosser Shines in Dual Portion of the Battle of the Rockies

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – (8) Argo wrestling would've been hard pressed to find much tougher competition than the three teams they competed against in the Battle of the Rockies Duals hosted by the University of Great Falls. The UGF wrestlers lost all three duals; 28-9 vs. NCAA Div. II McKendree University, 37-7 vs. (4) Oklahoma City University, and 19-16 vs. (9) Concordia (Neb.).

The only Argo to go undefeated in all three duals, was senior (2) Luke Schlosser who continued his exceptional season at 125. Schlosser first won by decision (3-0) against a talented DII opponent from McKendree before winning by major decision against wrestlers from both Condordia (13-1), and OCU (11-3).

Junior Kaldoon Rashid, ranked fifth in the NAIA at 165, came away with a 5-4 decision against McKendree and won by decision (11-6) against Concordia. Against Oklahoma City he faced (1) Ricky McCarty and after wrestling evenly for the first minute, found himself in trouble and lost by Fall (1:47).

"We need to find some other bright spots in our duals," head coach Caleb Schaeffer said. "Right now Luke Schlosser, Khaldoon Rashid, and Taylor Vaughn are doing a good job and winning their matchups but we need to find some other guys to step up."

One Argo who did step up against McKendree was junior Sam Voigtlaender, who won 197 by an 8-3 decision. UGF also received big wins against Concordia from Jared Berlinger at 133 (Dec. 8-2), Justin Whitman at 141 (Dec. 7-5) and (16) Taylor Vaughn at 184 (Dec. 6-3).

The duals were day 1 of the Battle of the Rockies. Overall, eight different teams participated in the duals and will participate in the open tournament portion of the event on Saturday, Dec. 5 starting at 9 a.m.
