LOGAN, Utah – The No. 17 Argos (10-8-1) fended off a third-period rally to defeat the No. 14 Weber State Wildcats (15-14-3) 5-4 in an overtime shootout on Thursday evening in Logan, Utah.
Four Argos tallied goals during the Argos win, including Kwiatkowski,
Josh Larson,
Kyler Mack, and
Leo Felt. Mack led the Argos in assists, dishing out two.
The Wildcats struck first to lead by one halfway through the first period.
Cody Hendrickson and Mack delivered a puck to Kwiatkowski to tie things up at the three-minute mark to close out the first period, 1-1.
Less than three minutes into the second period, Mack and Felt assisted on a goal from Larson to give the Argos their first lead of the match, 2-1.
The Argos began to separate themselves as Larson returned the favor to Mack to add some insurance and give the Argos a two-point advantage headed into the final period, 3-1.
The Wildcats cut the deficit back to one at the 19-minute mark to open the final period.
The Argos responded less than three minutes later as
Leo Felt tallied a score of his own unassisted to push the Argos lead back to two, 4-2.
However, The Wildcats rallied over the final two minutes as they scored a goal at the 1:25-minute mark to bring the match back within one. Followed by the equalizer with 10 seconds on the clock to send the match into overtime.
The Argos found success in the overtime period as they won the shootout to defeat the Wildcats, 5-4.
