KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Providence women's wrestling team came in at #9 in the
final national poll of the regular season.
"It's about where we should be at and it sets a standard for our program," head coach
Carlene Sluberski. "But at the end of the day, you have to show up and wrestle. I'm not living by the rankings. Anyone can go and have the tournament of their life. I think we can go and do better than where we are, but if we don't show up we could do worse too."
The Argos have 11 wrestlers that are ranked in the Top 20 in their
individual weight classes, including four ranked in the Top 10.
Iverly Navarro (101 lbs.) is ranked 2
nd,
Yurie Yoneoka (109 lbs.) is ranked 3
rd,
Tatum Sparks (155 lbs.) is ranked 3
rd and
Ivory Ayers (170 lbs.) is ranked 7
th.
Syania Santana-Quintana (123 lbs.) is ranked 11
th,
Alina Kinsey (116 lbs.) is ranked 12
th, Gabrielle Parini (130 lbs.) is ranked 14
th,
Maria Enriquez (143 lbs.),
Sabrina Perez (170 lbs.) and
Christine Marquez (191 lbs.) are all ranked 15
th, and
Lana Hunt-Waddoups (109 lbs.) is ranked 16
th
"I'm really excited for those girls," Sluberski said. "The ones that are ranked higher are older girls. I think there's a lot of opportunities for some of our girls to take down some of the girls ranked ahead of them."
The Argos will travel to Ashland, Oregon for the Cascade Conference Tour on Mar. 1.
