ASHLAND, Ore. - The ninth-ranked University of Providence men's wrestling team was upset 21-15 on the road by Southern Oregon Thursday night in Ashland, Ore., in Cascade Conference Wrestling.  

Deven Altenburg-Lasher started the night of taking down Mikey Ladkani by a 2-1 decision at 125-lbs. The Raiders would win the next four matches including at 157-lbs., where 25th ranked Aden Graves was upset in a 5-3 decision. No. 24 ranked Bridger Hall earned a victory at 165 before ninth-ranked Abel Nava was upset by No. 19 Alex Hernandez 3-2. Sawyer Hobbs pinned Kabb Christensen in 1:21 of the first period at 184 to pull the Argos to within 18-12 but 15th ranked Liam Swanson was upset next at 197 to secure SOU's first win over Providence on the mats since Jan. 2, 2018. No. 2 ranked KC Buday picked up the Argos final win at 285 with a 2-0 win over 20th ranked Antonio Garcia.  

Head coach Steve Komac says it was a tough night for the Argos, "We had a bit of a tough night. The simplest thing I could say is we got out-competed. We felt like they wrestled harder than us in places. This is a great group of young men to work with and we have a lot of confidence that we will address the situations that made the difference in those matches tonight.

Providence returns to action Saturday traveling to Dickinson, N.D. for the Dickinson State Open.
