LOGAN, Utah. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated #20 Colorado State 2-1 Saturday night.
Neither team was able to get much offense early, but the Argos (8-4) had a two on one opportunity when senior
Ty Alger crossed the puck to freshman
Elliott Venini, but his one-timer was stopped by the goaltender.
A few minutes later the Rams (4-6-1) scored the first goal of the contest when a wrist shot from the point found the back of the net.
The Argos would have a chance late in the second period but freshman
Adam Husli's shot was saved by the goalie.
Midway through the third period the Argos had a power play opportunity and senior
Jakob Stevenson's shot got past the screened goaltender to tie the game at one.
The Argos would score again a few minutes later when senior
Ty Alger's cross ice pass found freshman
Stanislav Struthers who buried the wrist shot to give UP their first lead of the game.
Despite late pressure from the Rams, the Argos were able to hold on for the 2-1 victory. Â
The Argos will be back in action Nov. 19 when face #4 Utah State University. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at George S. Eccles Ice Center. Â Â Â Â
