GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program fell to #1 Montana State University 6-2 Thursday night.
The Bobcats (30-2) would score the first goal of the game when a shot from the point snuck past the screened goaltender.
Montana State would add another goal thirty seconds later, and despite a breakaway attempt from freshman
AJ Belanger, the Bobcats would add another power play goal late in the in the period to go into the break leading 3-0.
The Argos (13-5) would cut into the Bobcat lead to start the second period when senior
Ty Alger buried the breakaway goal. A couple minutes later Belanger received freshman
Jamal Kalaf pass in front of the net and pushed it past the goaltender to bring the game within one.
Montana State would add another goal with three minutes remaining to take a 4-2 lead into the final period.
The Bobcats would add another two goals in the third period, and despite late pressure from the Argos, UP fell to Montana State University 6-2.
The Argos will be back in action Feb. 8 when they visit Logan, Utah for the Mountain West Collegiate Hockey League conference tournament. Games will be played at George S. Eccles Ice Center. Â
