LOGAN, Utah – The University of Providence hockey program defeated Weber State 5-2 Friday night.
The Argos (15-5) scored the first goal of the game when off a faceoff in the offensive zone, freshman
Jamal Kalaf found freshman
Colby Friedrich whose wrist shot from the slot went top corner to beat the goaltender.
A few minutes later the Argos would add another when freshman
Adam Husli won the battle on the boards and found freshman
AJ Belanger in front of the net who pushed it past the goaltender to make it 2-0.
The Wildcats would cut the lead in half but a few minutes later Friedrich sent a pass all the way down the ice that found senior
Jakob Stevenson who buried his wrist shot to put the Argos ahead 3-1.
With nine minutes left in the second the Argos would extend their lead to three when Stevenson sent a cross crease pass to senior
Ty Alger whose one-timer found the back of the net.
UP would add another goal to start the final period, and despite a late goal from Weber State, UP came away with the 5-2 victory. UP will face the winner of Montana State and Utah State tomorrow in the MWCHL Championship at George S. Eccles Ice Center. Â
