MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The University of Providence hockey program fell to Liberty University 4-3 Monday afternoon.
The Argos (17-7) struck first when the Argo forecheck caused a turnover by Liberty and senior
Jakob Stevenson sent a cross ice pass to senior
Ty Alger who found the back of the net to give the Argos the lead.
Following a Liberty goal, Stevenson picked up his second assist of the game finding freshman
Tobias Robinson on a two-on-one break to put the Argos ahead 2-1 heading into the second period.
The Argos made it two in a row when Alger took a breakaway chance and buried his wrist shot fifteen seconds into the second period to make it 3-1.
Both teams would go back and forth the rest of the period but neither team was able to capitalize as the Argos took a two-goal lead into the third period.
Liberty would score three goals in the final period, and despite late pressure from the Argos, UP fell to Liberty 4-3.
The Argos will be back in action tomorrow for their second game at the ACHA D2 National Tournament. Puck drop versus Lindenwood is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. (MST) in Maryland Heights, Missouri at the Centene Community Ice Center.
