MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The University of Providence hockey program fell to Lindenwood 3-0 Tuesday night.
The Lions struck first scoring in the first minute and would extend their lead to two after a puck ricocheted off an Argo defender and found the back of the net.
The Argos (17-8) were able to threaten late in the first but were unable to capitalize as they went into the second period trailing 2-0.
Both sides would go back and forth the entire second period until a shorthanded chance for the Argos was batted away by the Lindenwood goaltender to keep the Lions ahead by two.
The Argos opened the final period with pressure early but freshman
Adam Husli's wrist shot on the two-on-one break was stopped by the goaltender.
The Lions would add another goal in the third, and despite late pressure from the Argos, UP fell to Lindenwood 3-0.
The Argos will be back in action tomorrow for their final game of pool play at the ACHA D2 National Tournament. Puck drop versus Army is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. (MST) in Maryland Heights, Missouri at the Centene Community Ice Center.
