GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated Colorado State 5-4 Friday night.
The Argos (2-0) scored the first goal of the game 30 seconds in when on the two-on-one break junior
Adam Husli found sophomore
AJ Belanger who beat the goalkeeper to put UP ahead 1-0.
A few minutes later Husli intercepted the Rams (0-2) pass and found junior
Colby Friedrich streaking in front of the net who pushed it past the goalie to extend the Argo lead to two.
Just under two minutes later the Argos increased their lead to three when freshman
Darnell Glasgo's shot from the blue line got past the screened goaltender.
The Argos would continue to dominate in the second when sophomore
Chavez Constant's shot from the point when bar down for his first goal of the season.
With two minutes left in the second period the Argos extended their lead to five when
Fabian Vik's pass from behind the net found junior
Jamal Kalaf who chipped it past the goalie.
Colorado State would respond to start the third period scoring three goals in the first three minutes to shorten the Argo lead to two.
Following a Rams powerplay Colorado State would score their fourth straight goal to cut the lead to one, but the Argo defense would hold on as UP defeated Colorado State 5-4.
The Argos will be back in action tomorrow, Sept. 28 when they host the University of Denver. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Great Falls Ice Plex.
