Final Results from Day One at National Duals

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's wrestling program competed at the National Dual Meet Championships throughout the day on Friday.

In the opening dual versus #5 Embry-Riddle the Argos picked up a pair of ranked victories with #17 Tristan Bremer defeating #12 Adam Stanley 20-4, and #1 Aden Graves defeating #13 Logan Hancey 4-2, but the Argos would lose five of the ten matches to lose via criteria.

In the second dual against Oklahoma City #18 Kobi Johnson and #22 Na'u McBrayer both picked up victories with Johnson pinning Garrett Johnson and McBrayer defeating Cooper Evans by major decision to put UP ahead 10-0.

Following a pair of losses from the Argos, #9 Pig Hobbs picked up a ranked win pinning #25 Hayden Brown, and #13 Bridger Hall continued the momentum defeating Alex Wilson 10-0.

The Argos would drop the match at 174, but #5 Sawyer Hobbs pinned #16 Bryce Milster and #11 Caleb Werner defeated Omari Smith 13-10 to secure the dual for UP.

In the final dual of the day versus Southern Oregon, #18 Kobi Johnson picked up a ranked victory defeating #10 Vonn Fenn 6-4.

The Argos would lose the next two matches, but at 149 senior Dougie Swanson won his only match of the day defeating Jonathan Hernadez 9-4 to bring the dual within three.

SOU won the 157 match, but #9 Pig Hobbs and #13 Bridger Hall each bumped up a weight class and picked up victories to put the Argos ahead by two.

UP fell at 184, but the highlight of the day for the Argos was #11 Caleb Werner pinning #5 Asher Ruchti in 2:08.

The Argos led by five heading into the final match and #14 Ethan DeRoche stood tall defeating Sebatian Echeverria 8-4 to secure the dual victory for UP.  

The Argos will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 11 for day two at the National Dual Meet Championships. UP will face Missouri Valley at 9:00 a.m. (CST) for the first dual of the day.
