Argos Defeat Utah State 5-2

10/3/2025 9:36:00 PM

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program picked up their first home victory of the season defeating Utah State 5-2 Friday night.

The Argos (3-2) had the first opportunity of the game when on the powerplay UP rattled of shots on net until the Aggies (3-3) goaltender was out of position and sophomore Kaleb West pushed the puck into the back of the net.

Two minutes later the Argos added another goal when senior Colby Friedrich's pass ricocheted off the defender to junior Chavez Constant and his wrist shot went top corner to put UP ahead 2-0.

Neither side threatened the rest of the period as the Argos went into the break leading 2-0.

The Aggies scored one minute into the second period, but three minutes later the Argos answered when senior Adam Husli's shot was blocked by the goaltender, but Friedrich grabbed the rebound and chipped it into the back of the net to put UP ahead 3-1.

Utah state would add a goal halfway through the period, and despite a late chance for the Argos, neither side added another goal as UP went into the break leading 3-2.

The third period was back-and-forth until the Argos forced a turnover in the offensive zone and sophomore William Osika corralled the loose puck and his wrist shot went over the goaltender's glove to give UP a 4-2 edge with seven minutes left.

The Argos continued their momentum scoring just under two minutes later when a pass through the crease from Friedrich found senior Fabian Vik and his one-timer beat the goaltender to extend the Argo lead to three.

Utah State had a few chances over the final five minutes, but the Argos defense stood strong as the Argos defeated the Aggies 5-2.

The Argos will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 4 when they host the University of Utah. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont.
