LOGAN, Utah – The University of Providence hockey program dominated #11 Grand Canyon University 7-2 Thursday afternoon.

The Argos (9-6-1) scored the first goal of the contest 25 seconds into the game when on the first rush of the day senior Colby Friedrich found senior Adam Husli out wide and his wrist shot beat the goaltender to put UP in front 1-0.

The Argos continued their momentum scoring 20 seconds later when junior AJ Belanger from behind the net found sophomore Daniel Tainton in the slot and his one-timer found the back of the net to put UP in front 2-0 43 seconds into the game.

Two minutes later UP extended the lead to three when a loose puck in front of the net was slapped past the goaltender by Friedrich, and neither side threatened over the final 15 minutes as the Argos went into the break leading 3-0.

The Argos would add to their lead midway through the second period when senior Fabian Vik's stretch pass to Husli connected, and he buried his wrist shot to put UP ahead 4-0.

The Lopes answered with a pair of goals over the next five minutes, but a few moments later freshman Logan Todd dropped the puck off to senior Brett Janssens and his wrist shot found the back of the net to put the Argos in front 5-2 heading into the third period.

Janssens and Tainton would add their second goals of the day down the stretch as the Argos dominated #11 Grand Canyon University 7-2.

The Argos will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 21 when they head to Ogden, Utah. Puck drop versus #25 Colorado State is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
