LOGAN, Utah – The University of Providence hockey program fell to #16 Boise State 5-4 in overtime in the Beehive Showcase finale Sunday afternoon.
Following a scoreless first period the Broncos scored a pair of goals to take a 2-0 lead but with five minutes remaining in the second period the Argos (11-6-2) answered when senior
Colby Friedrich skated behind the net and left the puck for senior
Adam Husli who beat the goaltender to cut the lead in half.
Boise State added a goal with under one minute left in the second period as the Argos went into the break trailing 3-1.
The Broncos scored to extend the lead to three to begin the third period, but the Argos responded with a goal from Friedrich midway through the third to make it 4-2 with 11 minutes remaining.
The Argos continued their momentum scoring a few minutes later when junior
Jamal Kalaf found sophomore
Darnell Glasgo on the break and his wrist shot beat the goaltender to bring UP within one.
UP would pressure over the next four minutes until sophomore
Sam Duehlmeier took the puck down the ice and after creating separation from his defender his wrist shot found the back of the net to tie the game at four.
The Argos had a few chances from Husli and senior
Fabian Vik to begin the extra period but Boise State scored three minutes into overtime as the Argos fell to the Broncos 5-4. Â
The Argos will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 8 when they head to Helena, Mont. for the Montana Cup.
