WESTMINSTER, Colo. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated MSU-Denver 6-4 to pick up their first win of the 2025-2026 season.
The Argos (1-1) scored the first goal of the game when
Colby Friedrich sent a pass across the ice and it went off the defenders stick and past the goalkeeper to put UP ahead 1-0.
Just over a minute later the Argos added another goal when
AJ Belanger toe dragged around the Roadrunner (1-3) defender and his wrist shot beat the goaltender to give UP a 2-0 lead midway through the first period.
With three minutes left in the first the Argos extended the lead when Belanger picked up the loose puck off the boards and beat the goaltender stick side to make it 3-0.
The Roadrunners added a goal with just over two minutes remaining in the period as the Argos went into the break leading 3-1.
The Argos quickly answered to start the second period when Friedrich passed the puck across the ice to senior
Adam Husli whose one-timer found the back of the net to put UP in front 4-1.
UP did not stop there adding another two goals over the next four minutes when junior
Elliott Venini picked up the loose puck in front of the net and pushed it across the line and Belanger drove the net and pulled the puck in front of the goaltender and tucked it past the pads for his third goal of the game.
The Roadrunners added a power-play goal in the final minutes of the second period as the Argos led 6-2 heading into the final break.
The Roadrunners scored a pair of late goals in the third period to cut the lead to two, but the Argos defense stood strong down the stretch as the Argos defeated MSU-Denver 6-4.
The Argos will be back in action tomorrow, Sept. 27 for a matchup with the University of Colorado. Puck drop is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the Promenade Ice Center. Â
