GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's hockey program defeated Utah State 2-2 (3-2) in a shootout Saturday night.

Both teams went back-and-forth throughout the first period and despite a pair of power-play opportunities for both teams, neither side could find the back of the net as UP went into the break tied at zero.

The Argos (4-2) opened up the scoring to begin the second period when junior Kage Yellowfly found junior Darnell Glasgo at the point and his wrist shot found the back of the net to put UP ahead 1-0.

UP continued their momentum, adding a goal four minutes later when senior AJ Belanger skated through the defense and his wrist shot went top corner to beat the goalkeeper and give the Argos a 2-0 lead.

The Aggies (3-3) added a goal with six minutes remaining in the second period as UP went into the third leading 2-1.

Utah State continued to pressure scoring a goal seven minutes into the third period to tie the game at two, and despite a late power-play opportunity for Utah State, neither side could find the go-ahead goal as UP went into overtime tied at two.

Both teams had opportunities in the three-one-three overtime but neither side could find the game-winner as the Argos and Aggies went into a shootout.

In the deciding shootout the Aggies converted their first attempt followed by a goal from Belanger to tie it up at one. The Aggies once again were able to convert on their second attempt but the Argos answered with a goal from Adam Husli to tie it up at two. In round three senior goalkeeper Chris Fines saved the Aggies attempt and Yellowfly buried his shot to give the Argos the 3-2 win in the shootout.

The Argos will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 16 when they host the University of Montana at 7:30 p.m. in Great Falls.
