Ty Vinson enters his seventh season as an assistant coach for the University of Providence men's wrestling program after joining the Argos in the fall of 2019. A Great Falls native and former NCAA Division I standout, Vinson has been instrumental in developing nationally competitive wrestlers while helping uphold the championship tradition of Argo Wrestling.
Vinson is a graduate of Great Falls High School, where he wrestled under current University of Providence head coach Steve Komac. During his prep career, he captured two Montana Class AA State Championships in 2007 and 2008, establishing himself as one of the state's top wrestlers before continuing his career at Oregon State University.
At Oregon State, Vinson competed at the NCAA Division I level, qualifying for the NCAA Championships as both a junior and senior while serving as team captain during his final season. His leadership, work ethic, and technical ability laid the foundation for a successful transition into coaching.
Following graduation, Vinson began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of Great Falls, where he helped mentor 11 NAIA All-Americans and guided the Argos to a national runner-up finish in 2014 and a fourth-place finish in 2015. He later became the head assistant coach for the men's and women's wrestling programs at Eastern Oregon University, playing a key role in launching the programs while coaching six combined NAIA All-Americans over two seasons.
After returning to Great Falls, Vinson reunited with Coach Komac and joined the University of Providence coaching staff in 2019. Since then, he has been a key contributor in recruiting, athlete development, match preparation, and technical instruction, helping the Argos consistently produce conference champions, All-Americans, national qualifiers, and nationally ranked wrestlers.
Known for his technical expertise, competitive mindset, and ability to build meaningful relationships with student-athletes, Vinson is committed to developing champions both on and off the mat. His extensive experience as both an elite competitor and accomplished coach continues to play a vital role in the sustained success of the University of Providence wrestling program.
