Another Overtime Brings Another Loss for Lady Argos

HERMISTON, Ore. – The Lady Argos played their fifth overtime game in their past six contests but couldn't pull out a point, allowing a goal in the first extra period to lose 2-1 to the College of Idaho.

The loss gives UGF a final conference point total of 10 and puts them at the mercy of other conference teams for their chance at the Cascade Collegiate Conference playoffs.

As has been the case for much of conference play, the Lady Argos were out possessed by their opponent but for the first 40 minutes the defense and sophomore goalkeeper Kyra Dorvall kept the sheet clean.

Dorvall, however, left the game in the 38th minute due to injury with two saves on the day. With the team's starting keeper out, fellow sophomore Kayla Gray came in and despite her best efforts, let up the game's first goal two minutes later.

While both of the game's goals ended up on Gray's record, the statistics suggest that at least one goal was inevitable for to the Yotes who outshot UGF 20-5 in the match.

Despite that disparity, the Argo's desperation led to a game-tying goal from freshman Kayla Cobbett. The score came with less than three minutes left to go and gave UGF hopes of a tie or overtime victory.

Those hopes were not to be has COI ended the contest just three minutes into overtime with an unassisted goal from Sydney Woods.

The loss leaves UGF tied for 7th in the CCC standings with 10 points and no more games left. The top eight teams make the conference playoffs and while the Lady Argos have no games remaining on their schedule, both teams behind UGF in the standings have two games left. Those two teams are Corban University with seven points, and Evergreen State College with six. A win in the CCC is worth three points, while a tie is worth one.

If UGF does make the CCC playoffs, their first round game would take place on November 11 in Springfield, Oregon.
