UGF Soccer Teams Make First Cascaded Conference Tournament

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Both the Argo and Lady Argo soccer have qualified for their first appearances in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Soccer Championships in their first year as a part of the CCC. Both the men's and women's tournament will be played in Springfield, Ore., beginning on Wednesday, Nov 11.

The UGF men enter the tournament as the number-three seed with a conference record of 10-3. The Argos are 12-5 on the season in their first year under head coach Joseph Yeisley and have built confidence and momentum heading into the post season.

UGF finished the regular season on a five game winning streak with a goal differential of 31-2. They will play sixth-seeded Warner Pacific College in the CCC Quarterfinals on November 11 at 11 a.m. The previous meeting between the two teams resulted in a 1-0 overtime win for UGF thanks to a goal in the 99th minute from Luis Torres.

Making the tournament was a tighter affair for the Great Fall's women, just making the cut as the number-eight seeded team. The Lady Argos had to wait for other CCC teams to determine their postseason fate. They entered the week tied with Oregon Tech in the conference standings with the two teams claiming the seventh and eighth seeds. Both teams were finished with their conference schedule, however, while Corban, ninth in the standings had two games remaining.

The Warriors won their first game, joining UGF and OIT in three-way tie that saw the Lady Argos on the losing end of the tiebreaker. Another Corban win, then vaulted the Warriors into the seventh seed, leaving UGF and OIT tied for one playoff spot. With their head-to-head matchup ending in a tie, the second tiebreak went to the team with the fewest conference goal allowed, which UGF won with 16-18.

Having made it through the mathematical minefield, the Lady Argos will play the top team in the CCC, Carroll College at 5 p.m. on November 11. While the seed of that match may be lopsided, the play might not. The two teams played to a 0-0 double overtime tie at Carroll in their regular season meeting.
