OLYMPIA, Wash. – Argo soccer scored the first and the last goals of the game against Evergreen State College, but in between they let up a season high of four goals in a 4-2 loss to the Geoducks.
Things started well with UGF getting on the board in a hurry. Less than two minutes into the game, junior forward Christoffer Bisbo showed off his range, firing a hard shot from outside the penalty box to give his team an early 1-0 lead.
UGF held onto that lead for half an hour but a header from the Geoducks in the 33rd minute set the score at 1-1 by the end of the first half. The Argos were the more productive offense in the first 45 minutes, outshooting ESC 6-2, though neither team put a shot on goal besides the scoring efforts.
The first 20 minutes of the second half were disastrous for UGF. Evergreen dominated play, scoring three times before the Argos even managed to get a shot off. By the time UGF regained its composure the score was 4-1 with under 25 minutes left in the game.
Despite its desperation, the Argo attack still only managed two shots on goal. One of shots though was another goal. Once again it was a long distance effort that worked best for UGF only this time it was sophomore midfielder Adrian Gomez.
Gomez wound up from 25 yards out and drove the ball into the top right corner of the Evergreen net. That score came in the 83rd minute and while it brought the Argos closer to ESC's four goals, it was decidedly too little too late.
UGF's only other shot on goal came from senior forward Ian Ooko in the 74th minute.
With the loss, the Argo's record falls to 6-6 (5-4). The team is currently in a 3-way tie for 6th place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings. The Argos will look to improve on that placement in the standings as the team returns home for a game against Oregon Tech on October 21 at 3 p.m.
