Argo Soccer Ends Regular Season with 3-1 Senior Day Win

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Two seniors scored for Argo soccer on senior day, helping UGF to a 3-1 win over Multnomah University to end the regular season. The win clinches the Argo's spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament, as the team will finish no lower than T-5th in the conference standings.

The Argos dominated the Lions throughout the entire match and probably should have scored more goals than they did. Still, UGF had a comfortable lead after the first 20 minutes. While it was senior day, it was sophomore midfielder Adrian Gomez that scored first for UGF.

The fleet footed Spaniard dribbled his way through multiple Multnomah defenders in the 13th minute before beating the Lion's keeper from about 6 yards out to draw first blood.

With the goal, Gomez tied senior forward Mohamed Oulare for a team leading 6 goals on the season. Five minutes later, Oulare answered back, taking a penalty kick in the 18th minute and driving it home for his 7th goal of the season.

UGF kept up the pressure for the rest of the half, but despite four more shots on goal, the Argos couldn't get another ball past the Multnomah's keeper, Manny Guillermo.

It took another 23 minutes into the second half before the Argos made the back of the Lion's net move. Once again it was a senior, this time midfielder Camilo Martinez who scored from distance with a shot from left and outside of the penalty box.

The UGF defense didn't allow a shot until the 53rd minute, and didn't allow another until a free kick with a minute left in the game. That free kick scored though, to kill a shutout bid from UGF's senior goalkeeper Henrik Sohn.

UGF outshot the Lions 32-2 and put 17 shots on goal.

The Argos finish the regular season with a record of 9-7 (8-5) and will finish no lower than T-5th in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings, qualifying the team for the CCC Tournament. The CCC Tournament will start on November 4th in Springfield, Ore.
