Nnadi, Herron Lead Lady Argos to 6th Straight Victory

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Led by Nneka Nnadi's 23 points (18) Lady Argo basketball played its most efficient offensive game of the season, beating Northwest University 84-64 stay undefeated on the year. UGF shot a season best percentage of 51.6 percent, including 40 percent from behind the 3-point line.

"Northwest is a good team and I thought our girls really did a good job of executing," UGF Head Coach Bill Himmelberg said. "I was really proud of the way we shot tonight, it was nice to have a breakout offensive game like that."

UGF was averaging 37 percent from the field heading into the game, and the Lady Argos didn't improve that any in the beginning of the first quarter, starting the game 1-6 after junior Molly Herron started the game with a made layup. The poor shooting led to a fairly even fight for the first 10 minutes as UGF finished the period up 13-11.

A fast break layup from Nnadi late in the first quarter seemed to get the NAIA Preseason All-American into an offensive rhythm that had been missing for the senior so far in 2016-17. She scored nine straight points for UGF in in the second quarter, keeping the Lady Argos in the game as the Eagles battled to take the lead at the 5-minute mark. A three from Nnadi regained the lead for UGF and then her teammates joined in the scoring.

Nnadi's efforts led to a 25-point second quarter for the Lady Argos, but UGF also led the Eagles score 21 of their own and the score was still close at the half. The third quarter brought the same scoring production for Great Falls, but a tightening defensive effort held Northwest to four less points than in the previous period.

It was in the third and fourth quarters that UGF's shooting became extraordinary. The team went 17-27 from the field in the second half for a percentage of 62.96, including 5-10 from behind the arc.

Leading the way in both points and efficiency for UGF was Nnadi and her 23 points which came off of 10-13 shooting from the field, including 2-3 from three. The senior also added 6 rebounds to her stat sheet in 28 minutes.

Nnadi being the team's top scorer is never a surprise, what was unexpected was the offensive output from junior Molly Herron. Usually played for her value as a shutdown perimeter defender, Herron showcased an ever improving offensive game, setting a new career high with 13 points off of 6-7 shooting.

Senior guard Darah Huertas-Vining flirted with her first double-double of the season, hitting three 3-pointers on her way to 10 points and 7 assists with just 1 turnover. Junior guard/forward Kallee Wilson also set a new NAIA career high with 10 points off the bench.

With the team's record now at a perfect 6-0, the next test will be a neutral site game against The Evergreen State College on Saturday, November 12 at 6:30 p.m. MT.
