Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lady Argos Fall 3-1 to Carroll in Conference Semis

Score: UGF 1, Carroll 3 (25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23)

Location: Great Falls, Mont. (The McLaughlin Center)

Records: UGF 14-14 (7-7), CC 22-6 (10-3)

Quick Recap: Senior setter Bree Davis had a career high 5 aces, but the Lady Argos could not overcome a tough Carroll team in the Frontier Conference semifinals, falling 3-1.

The Lady Argos got off to an early lead in both the first and second sets, but both times Carroll was able to catch up. Carroll took the first set 25-22, but UGF was able to pull through in the second.

Senior captain Madison Wilhelm posted 12 of her 26 total kills in the second set, which helped UGF win 25-21. She had her 15th double double of the season, adding 15 digs to her total kills. Her hitting percentage led the team with 0.449.

In the third set, the score was close until UGF nabbed 3 straight points to put them up 18-15. Carroll recovered, and fired off their own three points to tie the score. Neither team could gain an advantage until a UGF service error gave Carroll the 25-22 set.

The fourth set was a similar story, and a late 5-point run by UGF gave them a 20-18 lead. Carroll responded with 4 straight points, and both teams went back and forth until Carroll got a two-point edge to end the match, 25-23.

The match was a battle of the setters, with Davis and Carroll's Jonni Dorr giving their all. Dorr had 52 assists to Davis' 50, but Davis scored more points for the Lady Argos. Her 5 aces compared to Dorr's 3 helped her post 11.5 points in the match.

Both teams played a hard fought four sets, but in the end, UGF's errors cost them the match. The Lady Argos had 9 service errors, compared to only 3 for the Saints. This 6-point differential very well could have made all the difference, since UGF led in kills, aces, and blocks.

For the Argos:

-          Sophomore outside hitter Korie Milan was good at the net, posting 13 kills and 1 block assist for the Lady Argos.

-          Davis stuffed the stat sheet, with 50 assists, 5 kills, 4 aces, 4 digs, and 3 block assists.

-          Senior libero Kennedy Chadwick and freshman defensive specialist Olivia Snead boosted the Lady Argos defensively. Chadwick led the team with 17 digs, and Snead posted 11 digs.

-          Junior middle blocker Josee Pendleton led the Lady Argos with 3 blocks, and posted 7 kills, for a total of 10 points.

For the Opponent:

-          Jonni Dorr led the Saints with a double double of 52 assists and 18 digs. Both were team highs.

-          Three Carroll players scored double-digit kills. Paige Montgomery and Brielle Bumgarner each had 16, and Holly Morehouse posted 15.

Notes:

-          This is the second straight season that the Lady Argos lost in the Conference semis. UGF fell 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24) against Rocky in 2015.

-          Carroll and UGF played on Oct. 29, with the Lady Argos winning in 5 sets.

What's Next: The loss ends the Lady Argos' season.
