SEATTLE, Wash. – A third straight exhibition game against an NCAA Division I opponent brought a third straight loss for Argo basketball. Junior
Sergio Berkley and
Tymarieh Dixon both scored 14 points in a 90-49 loss to Seattle University.
The Redhawks were too much for the Argos from the opening tip, working up to a 10-point lead after the first six minutes of play.
Berkley and Dixon were steady throughout, with each scoring 8 points in the first half and 6 in the second. Both players were able to successfully beat Redhawk defenders off the dribble, getting to the rim or drawing fouls.
Berkley got sent to the free-throw line 8 times, hitting 6 of those attempts, and also hit two 3-pointers. Dixon, on the other hand, used 2nd chance points as supplementary scoring option to his driving abilities, with 3 of his 6 rebounds coming on the offensive end.
The Redhawks proved to be the biggest challenge on the Argo's 3-game exhibition road trip. UGF lost by 27 to Utah State, 33 to Eastern Washington, and then 41 to Seattle University. UGF shot just 28 percent from the field, and only made 4 of 23 attempts from long range.
Dixon was by far the most consistent performer in the 3-game stretch for UGF, scoring 15 points, 14 points, and 14 points in the last three outings.
UGF's record still stands at 7-2 (1-1) with the team returning to NAIA play for its next contest. That next game will be the first of three games in as many days as part of the 2016 Cactus Classic hosted by UGF at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Phoenix, Ariz. The Argo's first opponent will be Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at 1 p.m. MT on December 19.
