5 Argos Set Career Highs in 115-41 UGF Win over Diné

CHANDLER, Ariz. – It was a record setting performance for Argo basketball in the team's third and final game of the 2016 Cactus Classic. UGF broke its season record for points in a game, and five different Argos set career highs in points as UGF defeated Diné College 115-41.

The Argos started the game a little too relaxed and let the 6-man team that was the Warriors hang around for the first five minutes. After that, UGF woke up and dominated the rest of the game.

UGF shot 55 percent in the first half to Diné's 39 percent and went into the half up 54-25. All those numbers became significantly more exaggerated in the second half. The Argo's made 26 of 39 attempts from the field in the second half for a percentage of 66.7, while holding the Warriors to just 5 made shots in 33 attempts. The second half scoring margin was 61-16.

Freshman guard Quesly-Marie Noresias led all scorers with 19 points, 13 in the first half, off 7-9 shooting. He also played some suffocating defense, forcing three steals which were also all in the first half. Both his points and steal totals were career highs.

After overcoming some early turnovers, sophomore point guard Jarred Burr recovered and ended up flirting with a triple-double. He finished with a career high in points (17) and rebounds (7) and tied a career high with 8 assists. His points came mainly off his 5-7 shooting from behind the 3-point arc.

Junior Tymarieh Dixon was also a force to be reckoned with despite sitting much of the first half with three early fouls. The forward scored a career high of 18 points and set a career high with 3 assists while adding 6 rebounds.

The other two career setters were sophomore Frank Gump III and senior Iain Carr. Gump came off the bench to set career highs in points (12) and rebounds (5). Carr set career highs in those same two categories with 8 points and a game leading 11 rebounds.

With the win, UGF's record goes to 8-4 (1-1) on the year. The game also completes the Argo's trip to Arizona for the 2016 Cactus Classic, ending the tournament with a 1-2 record including two overtime losses. The season will continue back in Great Falls on December 28 for a 4 p.m. game against University of Calgary.
