SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Letting up a goal 11 minutes into the first half proved too much for Argo soccer to overcome, falling to Northwest Christian 1-0 in the team's second Cascade Collegiate Conference contest of the season.
After allowing that goal, the Argo defense tightened up and UGF ended up with more shots in the first half than the Beacons. Freshman forward George Hollow was the most aggressive Argo going to goal, putting two shots on goal the first 15 minutes after the NCU goal.
That pressure continued in the second half, with UGF threatening to score but never quite completing the task. UGF finished the match with 14 shots to NCU's 10 and had one more shot on goal than the Beacons.
While he wasn't able to find the net, sophomore transfer Adrian Gomez was a spark for UGF offensively. The midfielder led the Argos with 3 shots on goal in 69 minutes of play.
UGF saw a goalkeeper switch, with senior Henrik Sohn getting his first start of the season. After the early goal, Sohn was steady, finishing the game with 4 saves.
UGF's record goes to 1-4 (0-2) with the loss. They will get a week to recover from a tough weekend and then host a two-game home stand starting with Eastern Oregon University on Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. on Argo Field.
