GREAT FALLS, Mont. – When the University of Great Falls men's soccer team scores, it tends to do it in bunches. The Argos won 5-0 for the second time this season, this time coming in a Cascade Conference game against Warner Pacific College. Four different Argos scored, as UGF controlled the game from start to finish.
UGF got started early, with senior forward Mohamed Oulare scoring in the 10th minute for his second goal of the season. The play was set up by freshman George Holloway who carried the ball toward the left post and shot low and hard. His shot bounced off the WPC keeper to the foot of Oulare who immediately shot from about six yards out. That effort too, was saved by the goalkeeper and again fell right to Oulare who made the most of a second chance to put UGF up 1-0.
Play continued to be dictated by Argo possession and at the 26:33 mark UGF took its second corner of the day. Senior midfielder Camilo Martinez took the kick and drove a perfectly placed ball into the air about eight yards from the Knight's goal. Senior defender Sam Howard, who has showcased a great ability for winning contested headers on corners earlier in the year, finally connected well enough to put the ball in the back of net.
Warner Pacific rallied a bit after that, getting off its first shot in the 32nd minute and getting two more shots and a corner in the span of about 120 seconds around 39 minute mark. That was quickly quieted by a long ball deep down the middle of the field by junior forward Christopher Chavez. His arching pass found the foot of senior Ian Ooko who broke free for a one-on-one with the keeper which he deftly finished.
The half ended at 3-0 with UGF outshooting the Knights 10-3. Things evened up a bit in the second half due to increased pressure and urgency from WPC and the eventual emptying of the Argo's bench as the game wore on. Great Falls still outshot the Knights 7-6 in the final 45 minutes including what was easily the best shot of the match.
That came in the 64th minute by way of junior forward Christoffer Bisbo who hit a blistering ball from at least 25 yards out that dipped and curved perfectly into the upper left corner of the net. His shot made the score 4-0. Ooko scored the final goal of the match with a penalty in the 77th minute.
While maintaining possession kept the focus off of the Argo defense for most of the game, the team's back four still played well when tested. UGF let up just two shots on goal, both of which goalkeeper Marc Girones was well in place to save.
All three of UGF's wins this season have come at home, with the team's record now at 3-4 (2-2). The team will look to get its first road win of the year in a big match up against 2015 CCC Champion, Rocky Mountain College, on September 30 at 1 p.m.
