HELENA, Mont. – Lady Argo volleyball improved its play a bit from its last match, but not by enough, particularly when considering the opponent was #19 Carroll College. The Fighting Saints' defense was a difficult hurdle for UGF to get over, losing 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-13).
Set 2 was the best effort of the night for UGF, keeping it close the whole way with Carroll but never holding a significant lead. In that set, the Lady Argos hit for a percentage of 0.188, the team's highest of any of the three sets.
The biggest problem for UGF was simply getting kills. Carroll played a great defensive game, starting with 9 blocks at the net. When UGF did manage to get attacks past the Carroll blockers, more often than not, the ball found either the waiting arms of Carroll's back line or a spot of floor outside the court lines.
The Lady Argos finished the match with 30 kill and 20 hitting errors.
Senior
Madison Wilhelm was the team's most effective and more efficient hitter, finishing with 14 kills on 33 attempts with 7 errors. She also led the team in digs for the sixth time in seven matches, this time with a total of 11.
Wilhelm also had the team's best hitting percentage (0.212) not counting setter
Bree Davis. The senior had 2 kills on 4 attempts while totally 23 assists, 2 digs, and a block assist.
The Lady Argos record goes to 7-10 (1-3) after two straight conference loses. UGF will look to bounce back on September 30, as the team travels to Lewis-Clark State College for an 8 p.m. MT match.
