HAVRE, Mont. - The University of Providence men's basketball team program modern era record for points scored in a single game with a 140-67 win over Salish Kootenai. The two teams played earlier this year on SKC's home court, and the Argos scored 99 points despite shooting just 28 percent in the first half. This time they 61.8 percent from the floor on the way to the record.
Â
The previous record in the modern era of Argo basketball was 123 points which came in a 123-99 win over Walla Walla University on November 5, 2006.
Â
While a big win was no surprise, such a staggering barrage of points was a bit unexpected for an Argo squad that has struggled to score at times in 2017-18. UP was averaging 78.4 points per game heading into the contest and that includes a couple of cupcake opponents in the first eight games.
Â
For the first time all year, the team's offense was truly clicking, shooting 61.8 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from three. UP then added a great transition game and dominant offensive rebounds to the sharpshooting. The Argos scored 36 points off turnovers off of 16 steals and scored 30 second  chance  points off of 18 offensive rebounds.
Â
The Argos scored 75 points in the first half and had seven players score 10 points or more, five of whom were bench players. No UP player played more than 20 minutes and every player that dressed  for the game saw at least 10 minutes on the court.Â
Â
UP's leading scorer was senior forward
Steven Daho-Clark with 21 points on 8-11 shooting with 9 rebounds and was one of five Argos to score a career high. Next was junior guard
Jacob Wetzel who was another of those five with 16 points and also tied a career high with 6 rebounds.
Â
The other career scoring nights went to junior guards Kevinjason  Ng with 10 points,
Jack Taylor with 8 points, and
Kenneth Frelow II with 4 points.
Â
While the game did break the record for most points scored in a game, it didn't break the record for largest margin of victory with UP beating Dine College by 74 points last year.
Â
The Argo's record goes to 6-3 on the season with Frontier Conference play about to begin. UP will kick off the conference season with a home game against Rocky Mountain College on December 2 at 7:30 p.m.
