Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Josh Wetmore

Dixon Scores 14 in Argo Loss to #13 Montana Western

DILLON, Mont. – For the first 13 minutes, Argo basketball hung with (13) University of Montana Western, but eventually UGF just couldn't go shot-for-shot the Bulldogs, losing 88-62. Western shot 51 percent, becoming the third straight team to shot over 50 percent against the Argos.

The game started off with a made 3-pointer from junior guard Sergio Berkley, and until the 17:28 mark the Argos held a slim lead. Over the next two minutes the lead changed twice, eventually landing with a 1-point UMW lead with 15:45 on the clock.

Western's Dom Robinson then hit the first of his five 3-point field goals in the game and the Bulldogs led for the rest of the game.

After UMW's lead grew to 8 points, a few Bulldog turnovers another three from Berkley narrowed the gap back down to one. That was with eight minutes left in the first half and would be the closest UGF came to tying the game.

Western then went on a 9-0 run and seven consecutive missed shots from UGF to end the half meant a 13-point difference at the break.

It was in the second half that Western really pulled away. Robinson scored 13 points in the second half the Bulldogs hit 6 shots from distance. UGF senior Isaac Howard did his best to answer the 3-point barrage, hitting 2-4 and scoring 8 points in the second half, but UGF's 41 percent shooting couldn't keep up with Western's 52 percent.

Junior forward Tymarieh Dixon was the most consistent and efficient scorer for UGF. His 7-15 shooting was second in percentage only to senior John Makkar who took just two shots, and his 14 points made him the Argo's leading scorer.

Howard was the only other UGF player to finish in double-digits, scoring 10.

UGF is now on a nine-game losing streak with a 10-12 (2-9) record. The Argos will look to break that streak on the road against Rocky Mountain College on Saturday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m.
