Argos End Season With 83-66 Loss in Frontier Playoffs

LEWISTON, Idaho – Argo basketball's season came to an end in the first round of the Frontier Conference playoffs, losing to Lewis-Clark State College 83-66 on the Warrior's home court. LC State hit over twice as many 3-point shots as UGF, including seven in the first half.

Of those seven, threes, three came in the first four and a half minutes, and put the Argos into an early 13-4 deficit. UGF answered back with a hot shooting Jarred Burr off the bench. The sophomore point guard entered the game at the 15:18 mark and went 2-2 from distance in the next five minutes to work the margin down to 2 points.

It didn't take long for the Warriors rally back, getting the lead into double-digits over the next three minutes. UGF would never get closer than 9 points for the rest of the game.

In the final few minutes of the first half, junior forward Tymarieh Dixon started to get on a roll for UGF. He scored 7 of the Argo's last 10 points of the half. Dixon was also UGF's most efficient scorer in the second. He scored 7 more points, to lead the team with 14 points.

Thanks in part to his efforts, the second half was much closer than the first. With the LC State lead at 13 points to start the period, the margin only fluctuated by as many as 5 points for the rest of game. That improvement was a result of the Warriors going to their backups either. LC State score half as many bench points in the second half (6) than it did in the first (12).

Instead, the difference was a UGF attack that successfully focused on getting the ball to the basket. The Argos scored 26 points in the paint in the final 20 minutes of play and were more efficient in terms of scoring. While the Argos only made 2 3-pointers in the second half, the team's shooting percentage from the field rose from 35 percent in the first half to 44 percent in the second.

Behind Dixon in terms of scoring was junior guard Jared Schultz who scored 10 points off 4-6 shooting from the field. He also added 3 assists, second best on the team, in his 25 minutes of play.

Junior guard Matthew Brooks-McGregor had about as balanced a stat line as he's had all year. He finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

The loss ends UGF's season with a final record of 12-18 (4-14).
