Bisbo Sets School Record in 8-0 Win Over Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Senior captain Christoffer Bisbo broke the school record for goals scored in a single game, accounting for 5 of Argo soccer's goals in an 8-0 win over Walla Walla University. UP dominated the game from start to finish against a Walla Walla team that the Argos have never lost to in nine meetings.

All of the numbers heavily favored the University of Providence, and it didn't take long for the Argos to score the game's first goal. As would be the pattern for the next 90 minutes, it was forward Christoffer Bisbo that had the scoring touch. His first successful effort came in the 9th minute with a one-touch finish off a cross from junior midfielder Adrian Gomez.

It didn't take long for the Dane to strike again. In the 12th minute, Bisbo found himself on the beneficial end of a great pass from freshman George Almeida that gave him an easy look at an open net.

"Bisbo has been playing well all season. He is doing a great job with the selection and timing of his movement," Head Coach Joseph Yeisley said. "Today was a day that he found himself in the right spot a lot. I am glad to see him have a weekend like this."

The next 2 goals came from players not named Bisbo, but they also came in quick succession. The first of the two came off of a cross from freshman Sebastian Ongkowijaya that was controlled by senior forward Christopher Chavez and slotted into the upper right corner. After another three minutes had passed, Gomez lined up for a free kick and did his job well, placing a perfect ball into that same right corner.

In the 41st minute, a WWU foul inside the penalty box gave the Argos a penalty kick and Bisbo was called on to take it. Confident from his previous 2 goals, the senior calmly beat the Wolves' keeper for his third goal of the game.

It was in the second half that Bisbo's day went from career best to program record. In the 55th minute he again teamed up with Gomez to make the score 6-0 and in the 79th minute sophomore George Holloway found the senior open again inside the box for his fifth and final goal.

Holloway got a score of his own in the 87th minute off a pass from freshman defender Braden Bloom.

Overshadowed by Bisbo's record was a stellar game for Gomez. The junior finished the 90 minutes with 1 goal and 2 assists. Ongkowijaya and Bloom each got the first assist of their collegiate careers while Almeida got his third assist of the season, tying him with Gomez for the team lead on the year.

Bisbo's record broke the previously held record of 4 goals in a single game set by Kantey Locoh on September 8, 2008, against Oregon Tech.

UP waltzed through what is typically the easiest weekend of the conference season, beating Multnomah University 7-0 before the 8-0 win over Walla Walla. Despite the level of competition, Yeisley said he was pleased overall with the team's performance and that maybe the competition is better than in previous years.

"We showed our strength in both matches this weekend and we showed our youth in both matches as well. The 7-0 win against Multnomah seems routine, but they nearly beat Carroll today," Yeisley said.

The Argos are 3-1 (2-0) on the year and come back home next for a contest against Northwest Christian University at 3:30 p.m. on September 22.
