PREVIEW: Lady Argos to Open Conference Play vs. NCU and Corban

LIVE STATS | CCC STANDINGS

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Conference play begins this weekend for Lady Argo soccer with UP playing its first Cascade Collegiate Conference games of the 2017 season in home matches against Northwest Christian and Corban. The Lady Argos are coming off their first win of the season and are looking for a strong start to CCC play after missing the conference playoffs in 2016.

UP is coming off of its first win of the season, a confidence building 5-0 drubbing of Presentation College at home. Not only was getting the win a big boost for the 1-3 Lady Argos but so was the breakdown on who scored those 5 goals. Each of the team's goals were scored by a different player and were also assisted by five other players. Just four games into the year, the 2017 Lady Argos are already just 4 goals short of the team's 11 total goals scored in 2016.

Northwest Christian will be UP's first game of the weekend, starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 22 on Argo Field. NCU is a team the Lady Argos have had plenty of success against, leading the all-time series 4-1, but that one loss came last season in what Head Coach Brian Clarke said was probably his team's worst game of the year.

That 3-0 loss was probably the difference between UP making or missing the playoffs. The CCC takes the top eight teams in the standings and the Lady Argos finished ninth at 3-7-1 in conference, while the Beacons were seventh at 4-6-1.

In 2017, both the Beacons and the Lady Argos are 1-3 heading into the weekend, but NCU already has two conference games under its belt. The Beacons are 1-1 in conference with a 1-0 loss to Northwest University and a 2-0 loss to The Evergreen State College. Sophomore forward was the hot hand for NCU against Evergreen, scoring once and assisting on the team's other goal.

On paper, Corban will be the more difficult team, but in 2016 the Lady Argos had better success against the Warriors than the Beacons. Corban was UP's conference opener last year, and on the Warrior's home field, the Lady Argos pushed the game into overtime where they let up a game ending goal with just four minutes left in the second overtime period.

The 2017 version of the Warriors are 5-3 (2-0) and currently sit atop the CCC Standings. In the middle of the field, Corban graduated 2017 NAIA All-American midfielder Randi Donahue, but they return CCC Newcomer of the Year Holly Moorman and two Second Team All-Conference players up top.

One of those all-conference forwards, sophomore Annouscka Kordom, currently leads the team with 5 goals and ranks 5th in the NAIA with 3 Game Winning Goals.
The Lady Argos are 0-7 all-time against the Warriors.

Both the games will be played at 1 p.m. on Argo Field with the NCU game on Friday, September 22 and the game against Corban on Saturday, September 23.
