Holloway Scores Twice, Girones Saves PK in 4-0 Argo Win

PORTLAND, Ore. – Argo soccer responded well after a tough loss the previous weekend to rival Corban University and played one of its best games of the year in a 4-0 road win against Warner Pacific College. Sophomore forward George Holloway had a big day and junior goalkeeper Marc Girones saved a penalty kick to keep his third clean sheet of the season.

"This was one of our most complete performances. I thought we did a great job of dictating the tempo of the game," Head Coach Joseph Yeisley said. "We really gave very few chances away and our urgency in the final third was great."

UP got on the board early, breaking down the Knight's defense with a centering pass from the wing by junior midfielder Adrian Gomez that found senior forward Christoffer Bisbo open for an easy  tap in . That goal came in the 4th minute making it the team's fastest goal in 2017. It also gave Bisbo his 10th goal of the season.

Warner Pacific didn't waste much time getting a chance at an equalizer, forcing Girones into his first save of the match in the 10th minute.

The two teams traded minor chances for the next 20 minutes with the Argos looking slightly more dangerous. Then in the 33rd minute, UP gave Warner Pacific a gold opportunity – a penalty kick.

WPC's Harry Pilkington lined up to take the kick but Girones got the better of him, saving the shot to keep the score at 1-0.

"That was a huge moment in the match and a big boost for this young group. Just a huge save from Marc," Yeisley said.

Just five minutes the second half, redshirt-sophomore forward Cole Meyers scored his first goal of the season. The Great Falls native was the beneficiary of a ball that deflected off the WPC crossbar and fell to his feet for an easy finish.

A minute later the Argos truck again. This time, a well-placed cross from freshman outside back Braden Bloom found the head of  sophomore  forward George Holloway at the 6-yard box. Holloway put it in the back of the net to put UP ahead by a comfortable 3 goals.

Holloway wasn't done.

In the 64th minute, the Brit received a pass from senior forward Christopher Chavez, turned and scored his second goal of the game.

UP's defense took care of things from there. For the rest of the match, the Knight's offense got off just 2 shots and neither of those  were  on target. Girones didn't have to make a save all half and the Argos ended up outshooting WPC 15-9 in the game.

Bisbo continues to be one of the best goal scorers in the NAIA, bringing his season total to 10 after entering the match 3rd in the NAIA in Goals per Game at 1.500  gpg . He has now scored in five of the team's seven contests.

With is 2 goals, Holloway is now second on the team in scoring with 5 goals, which surpasses his freshman total of 4 goals.

UP's season record goes to 4-3 (3-2) on the year and the team sits fourth in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings. The Argos improve their all-time record against Warner Pacific to 5-1. Next up for the Argos will be a road game against Eastern Oregon at 2 p.m. MST in La Grande, Oregon on Saturday, September 30.
