LEWISTON, Idaho – Argo volleyball earned an impressive straight-set victory on Friday night over the Lewis-Clark State Warriors, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18).
The Argos led the match early as they got out to a 6-3 lead. The Warriors responded following an Argo error to take their first lead with a two-point advantage, 8-6. The Warriors maintained their two-point lead until they tacked on two more to push their lead to four, 17-13. The Argos would tie things up at 20 following two Warriors' errors. However, the Argos would seal the first set following a Warrior attack error and two kills from
Kelsey Shaver and
Sydney Andersen, 25-21.
The Argos controlled the second period as they got out to a 10-6 lead. The Warriors rallied to bring the deficit down to one, 10-9, before the two squads would trade points to push the match to 13-12. However, that was as close as the set would get as the Argos would close out the set following phenomenal hitting, seven kills, and two aces to grab the two-set advantage, 25-17.
Providence continued their offensive success into the third set as they grabbed a 7-2 lead. Lewis-Clark diminished the deficit back to one yet again, 10-9, but the Argos wouldn't let things get any closer as they closed things out with three kills from Andersen and an attack error to seal the win, 25-18.
Andersen led the team with a match-high 14 kills, while Shaver followed closely behind with 13, in addition to garnering 13 digs. Shaver hit for a phenomenal .407, while Andersen had a great night as well hitting for .333.
Paige Jensen earned 18 assists while
Cydney Finberg collected 15.
Averi Dyer led the Argos defensively with 14 digs, while
Ember Schwindt did work at the net with three blocks.
