GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The No. 24 University of Providence volleyball team earned a decisive win over the No. 23 Orediggers, dealing them a 3-1 loss which they had handed to the Argos earlier this season.

The Argos didn't play their best in the first set. The Orediggers led for most of the beginning, but the Argos tied things up at 6-6. Montana Tech would then take four in a row to retake the lead, 10-6. The Argos would bring the deficit down to one, 10-11, but the Orediggers wouldn't relinquish the lead for the remainder of the set, closing out the set on a 5-1 run.
The Argos kicked things into gear following the first set. Providence had a huge 8-2 run to open the second set. The Orediggers rallied to bring the deficit back down to one, but the Argos went on another run, 7-2, to take a 15-9 lead. The Argos wouldn't lay off the pedal as they would take the set and tie up the match, 1-1.
The Orediggers controlled the third set early, getting out to an 8-6 lead. A
Kelsey Shaver kill sparked a 10-2 run from the Argos to take a 16-10 lead. Providence would maintain the lead and closed the match out on a 5-3 run to take the 2-1 advantage.
The Argos continued to capitalize on their momentum as they got out to a 4-1 lead in the fourth set. The Argos continued the pressure pushing the lead to 12-5 following an 8-4 run. The Argos flexed their offensive muscles following an Argo attack error to claim nine unanswered points to push the Argos' lead to 21-6. The Orediggers tried to close the gap, 6-4, but the damage was already done as the Argos would seal the match with the 25-12 win.
Kelsey Shaver led the match with a game-high 22 kills, in addition to leading the Argos in blocks with
Ember Schwindt with three.
Paige Jensen collected 25 assists with
Cydney Finberg garnering 18.
Averi Dyer led the Argos defensively with 26 digs and teammates
Lauren Brown and
Kelsey Shaver earned 25 and 23, respectively.
