Second Half Lifts Saints Over Argos, 85-73

HELENA, Mont. – A huge second half for the Saints helped lift Carroll to an 11-point victory over the Argos (6-2) on Thursday. The Saints (10-0) outscored the Argos 52-29 in the final 20 minutes of play to grab the victory.
 
Brandon Cotton led the Argos with a team-high 24 points, while also dishing out two assists and grabbing a rebound. Austin Starr, D'shea Williams, and Jalen Shepard garnered double-digit points with 18, 11, and 10, respectively. Shepard tallied a game-high six assists, in addition to leading in steals with three. Jean-Frederic Daho collected a match-high 11 boards in the loss.
 
The Saints scored six-straight to open up the match with an early 6-0 lead. The Saints extended their lead to double digits as they outscored the Argos 9-5 to lead 15-5. A three from Starr would eventually cut the deficit down to one, 22-21. The Saints would knock down two threes, but four Argos field goals which were capped by a layup from Cotton gave the Argos their first lead of the match with less than four minutes to play in the opening period, 29-28. The Argos would lay it on for the final minutes of the first half as they extended their lead with a 15-4 run to head into the locker room with a 12-point advantage, 44-32.
 
The Argos opened up the second half less than a minute in with a Cotton three and a Starr three to push the lead to 18, 50-32. However, over the next seven minutes of game time, the Saints would slowly cut down the deficit until the Saints tied things up at 57 following a 25-7 run. Williams would net a free throw to put the Argos up 58-57, but the Saints responded with a made field goal to flip the advantage to the Saints, 59-58. That was as close as they Argos would get for the rest of the match. The Saints would control the remainder of the match as they held the Argos to 15 points in the final 10 minutes of the game to take the 85-73 victory.

The Argos will remain on the road as they travel to Billings on Saturday, December 1 to get back into the win column against the Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears at 7:30 p.m.
