Argos Handle Eagles to Close Out Cactus Classic, 83-65

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Argos controlled all 40 minutes in route to a huge 83-65 win over the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Tuesday to close out play in the Cactus Classic.
 
Jacob Wetzel collected his second double-double of the season as he led all scorers with 21 points, while also pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. He shot 50 percent from the field. Jalen Shepard followed closely behind with 20 points, five steals, four assists, and three rebounds. Austin Starr also contributed double-digit scoring with 11 points, in addition to contributing three boards, three assists, and a steal.
 
The Argos got out to a hot start as they opened the game with a 16-2 run to lead the Eagles by double-digits through the first nine minutes. The Argos maintained their double-digit lead through the rest of the period, eventually extending their lead to 18 with 40 seconds remaining until the break, 38-20, until the Eagles knocked down a layup to cut the deficit to 16 by the half, 38-22.
 
The Argos continued to lay it on in the second half as they eventually pushed their lead to 30 points, 62-32. Providence would lead by as much as 35 points with less than 10 minutes to play, but the Eagles would slowly inch their way back before the game would eventually close with an 18-point Argo victory, 83-65.

The Argos will take a break for the holidays before taking to the road to play the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on December 29.
