#18 Argos Gives Up 7 Goals in 3rd in 15-8 Loss to #14 NAU

AURORA, Colo. – For two quarters, (18) University of Providence lacrosse stuck right with (14) Northern Arizona University. Then a disastrous 7-0 third quarter struck and proved to be the difference in a 15-8 loss.

The Lumberjacks were the first to score out of the gate, getting shots past UP goalkeeper Jeremy Smith at the 10:49 mark and then again at 9:56. That's when junior Chase Clark stepped up and responded. He scored 2 straight unassisted goals in the span of a minute and a half to tie the game up at 2-2.

NAU got another before the end of the quarter to take a 3-2 lead.

The second quarter was evenly played between the Lumberjacks and the UP attack featuring senior Josh Smith. Smith scored three goals in the period, including the first at 14:21, and the last 2 with 1:10 and 0:35 on the clock.

That first goal came off a feed from Clark and ended up being the only assisted goal of the game for the Argos.

At the half, UP trailed, but not by much, with the score at 6-5. That all changed in the third quarter. Things got away from the Argos in that quarter, as the Lumberjacks rallied off 7 straight goals in the period without allowing UP to respond.

That 7-0 run got extended to 8-0 with NAU scoring the first goal of the fourth quarter before the rally finally ended.

It was Clark who eventually stopped the bleeding. His third goal of the game came with 12:36 left in the game. He and Smith each scored 1 more before things finished up, but it wasn't nearly enough to make up for the third quarter.

Both Clark and Smith scored 4 goals. They have accounted for all but 1 of the team's 23 goals in 2018.
