CALDWELL, Idaho – Another good start for University of Providence lacrosse went sour due in part to another disappointing third quarter in a 14-7 loss to (20) College of Idaho. The loss is UP's sixth in a row, five of which have come against ranked opponents.

UP was at a disadvantage all day in terms of possession, with the Yote's massive faceoff man, Avyion Fisher dominating at X. The 6-4, 280 lb. Fisher gave UP's much smaller, but usually effective faceoff men,
Dante Duran (5-10, 200 lbs.) and
Wyatt Jones (5-6, 165 lbs.) problems.

When the Argos didn't get the ball, the team's offense continued to showcase an improving team attack. After falling behind 1-0 early the first quarter, Argo midfielder
Turner Maza tied things up with an unassisted effort with under five minutes left in the period. UP then got a rare assisted goal, with junior middie
Kobe Johnson feeding the team's leading scorer
Josh Smith to give the Argos a 2-1 lead.

After the Yotes evened the score with 1:37 to go, Smith struck again with an unassisted effort with less than a minute left to put UP ahead 3-2 after 15 minutes of play.

For the rest of the game, the Yotes focused on shutting down Smith, the Argo's leading scorer on the season. That strategy, and C of I's ability to win faceoffs led to the Yotes outscoring the Argos 12-4 for the rest of the game.

From 7:42 left in the second quarter, till 14:20 in the fourth, C of I went on a 7-0 run. When sophomore middie
Michael Davis finally scored for UP in the fourth his goal made the score sat at 9-5. That goal was Davis's first of the season and was soon followed by a goal from Duran wh had scored his first of the year in second quarter of the game.

Faced with most possessions than his counterpart, junior goalkeeper
Jeremy Smith did his best to even the imbalance through saves. He finished with 15 saves in the game while C of I's goal had 13.

UP's record goes to 1-6 (1-1) on the year and will play another ranked team next, against (10) Sierra Nevada College on March 31 at 4 p.m. in Incline Village, Nevada.
