Bell Pitches Well in Lady Argo Losses to College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho – It was another tough day for the University of Providence softball in the team's last conference weekend of the year. In the first of two doubleheaders against The College of Idaho, UP's offense struggled to get going in a 6-1 loss in Game 1 and an 8-1 loss in Game 2.

On the bright side, UP had one of its best defensive days of the season, with just 1 field error in the two games combined for a team that averaged just under 2.5 errors per game on the year. The Lady Argos now have an overall season record of 7-31 and are 5-21 in conference.

Game 1

Key Moments:
  • After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Yotes started off the second inning with a home run from lead-off batter Colette Robert (JR/Milton-Freewater, Ore.) to take a 1-0 lead over UP.
  • The top of the fourth inning was when CI broadened the gap scoring 4 runs in 5 hits.
  • UP finally got a run in after Kenzie Gast (FR/Tuolumne County, Calif.) started off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single and was then was able to advance to second on a throwing error. A groundout by Gabrielle Canibeyaz (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) moved her to third and Bailey Henderson (SR/Fernley, Nev.) got her first and only hit of the game to bring in Gast to put the Lady Argos on the board.

At the Plate:
  • Coming off of a previous weekend high, Gast went 2-2 and had her second run of the season.
  • UP's most dominate batter all year, Henderson went 1-3 and had 1 RBI. She now leads the team in hits with 39 and has the best batting average (.379).

In the Circle:
  • Kristina George (SR/Salt Lake City, Utah) completed the entire game in the circle for the Lady Argos. She allowed 6 runs in 8 hits and had 2 strikeouts.

Game 2

Key Moments:
  • All runs were scored in the first inning for both UP and CI.
  • A rip through the left side from Henderson started off the Lady Argos in the first inning. Next up to bat, Canibeyaz forced a sacrifice bunt allowing Henderson to move over a base. Kylie Gonzales (SR/Hubbard, Ore.) answered with a single to right field giving Henderson enough time to make it to home giving UP a 1-0 lead.
  • That lead didn't last long, as the Yotes took advantage of 4 walks and 3 hits to score 8 runs in the first inning.

At the Plate:
  • COI out hit UP 6-5.
  • Hanna Tarum (SO/Great Falls, Mont.) led the team in hits going 2-3.
  • Henderson and Gonzales showed their senior leadership by bringing in the only run scored for the Lady Argos. Henderson went 1-3 with 1 run while Gonzales went 1-3 with 1 RBI.

In the Circle:
  • KJ Schweikert (FR/Columbia Falls, Mont.) started pitching for the Lady Argos but after CI took control of the game with 7 runs in only 3 hits in the bottom of the first, Ashton Bell (JR/Castle Dale, Utah) took the mound.
  • Bell pitched one of her best games of the season. She only allowed 1 run in 3 hits for the remainder of the game.
