HILLSBORO, Ore. – Errors and a stalled offense were factors in an 8-0 loss for the University of Providence softball team against (7) Corban University that only went 5 innings due to the mercy rule. UP held the Warriors for the first two innings keeping Corban both hitless and scoreless, but that changed in the three innings that followed.
The Lady Argo offense committed 4 errors in the game and had just 2 hits, its fewest total of the season. With the loss, UP's record is now 5-16 (3-9) and the team stays in eighth place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.
Key Moment:
- A bright spot for UP's offensive came from Bailey Henderson (SR/Fernley, Nev.). Henderson was the team's leadoff hitter for the game, and she provided the team with a promising start. She singled to center, which ended up being 1 of the team's 2 hits in the game.
- Corban's offense got hot in the top of the third. After a walk to get Tabby Humphrey (SO/Turner, Ore.) on base, Maddy Melton (SR/Salem, Ore.) answered with a double to bring the Warriors to a 1-0 lead. On the next at-bat, UP had its first error of the game allowing another run to score.
- UP's 4 total errors all came in the three innings that Corban scored all of its runs. The errors resulted in 2 unearned runs for the Warriors.
At the Plate:
- The Warriors outhit the Lady Argos 9-2, those two hits coming from Henderson and Karsten Williams (JR/Sandy, Utah).
In the Circle:
- Pitching for the Lady Argos, Kristina George (SR/Salt Lake, Utah) allowed 9 hits and 8 runs in five innings. In taking the loss, she now has a record of 5-7.
- CU's Sabrina Boyd only allowed 2 hits in the five innings with 7 strikeouts.
