GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Argos (2-2) score three in the first 10 minutes of play, but a late rally by the Yellowjackets (3-1-1) helped them close out the match to take the win, 3-4.
During the first period,
Kate Sisler passed ball to
Eme McLaughlin who handled it from six yards out to net the first goal of the match for the Argos, 1-0. Less than two minutes later, McLaughlin took her second shot of the match, which was mishandled by the Yellowjackets into their own goal to tally another one for the Argos, 2-0. After the six-minute mark,
Alexis Cavalier joined in on the action as she scattered in the box and got a foot on the ball to give the Argos a 3-0 lead.
The Yellowjackets responded to cut the deficit by one as Julia Keller sent a ball to Cassidy O'Dell who made a shot from outside the penalty box, 18 yards out, to net it in the top left of the goal to make it 3-1. The Yellowjackets notched their second goal of the game as Cassidy O'Dell sent a ball to Julia Keller who headed it from the right side of the box across to the left side of the goal to bring the match within one by half, 3-2.
Following the break, MSU-Billings earned a penalty kick after a hand ball by Providence to net a goal in the 53
rd minute to tie up the game with the Argos, 3-3.
The Argos attempted to rally as they shot three goals following the tie, with two were on goal and knocked away by the goalie with one being just a little wide. In the 73
rd minute, a ball from the Yellowjackets' Claire Tevaseu was was handled by teammate Lexie Bloyder from the right of the box and shot over
Dakota Neumann to give the Yellowjackets their first lead of the match, 3-4.
The Yellowjackets outshot the Argos, 11-19, but both squads were equally efficient with seven on goal. The Argos led in corner kicks as they earned two compared to MSU-Billings none.
The Argos fell to 2-2 on the season but will look to rebound and get back in the win column against No. 19 Eastern Oregon on Friday.
