Volleyball Splits Final Day of Home Tournament

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Argo volleyball split their final day in the Best Western Plus Heritage Inn Fall Classic as they defeated Providence Christian in their noon matchup, 3-1, but fell in their nightcap to Benedictine University, 3-0.

In the opening set, the Argos took a lead early as they outscored the Sea Beggars 4-1. The Argos padded their lead as they had a 6-1 run after leading 13-9 to push the score to 19-10. Providence would eventually close things out to take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Argos commanded the second set as they kicked things off with an 11-1 run. The deficit proved to be too much as the Argos continued their success to take the 25-11 win.
 
The third set was a tough one for the Argos as they took a 2-1 lead but then lost it as the Sea Beggars got things to click. Providence Christian produced a 7-3 run to open the set giving the Sea Beggars their largest lead of the set, 8-5. The Argos took the lead back as they lead until 19-19. The Sea Beggars would then tack on six more while the Argos would only tally 3 to push the game to a fourth set, 22-25.
 
Providence Christian continued their momentum into the fourth set as they took a 5-0 lead to open the set. The Argos kicked it into gear as they immediately responded with a six-point run of their own to take the lead back for the final time of the match. Providence would not relent their lead as they would eventually seal things with the 25-14 win.
 
Kelsey Shaver lead things on the offensive end as she tallied nine kills with a .533 hit percentage. Shaver controlled things behind the service line as well to tally three aces and contributed defensively to earn a match-high 11 digs. Paige Jensen collected 25 assists.

The first set opened up as the Redhawks took a 3-10 lead. The Argos responded to bring things back within two, 9-11, but the Redhawks took back control of the game as they would take the game to a 23-14 lead. A final push by the Argos in a 7-0 run brought things back within two, but it was too little too late as Benedictine tacked on two more to take the opening set, 21-25.
 
The Argos took control early in the second set to lead 4-0. Providence would continue their success as they lead the Redhawks for much of the set until they tied it up at 16-16. Providence would eventually tie things up again at 20, but the Redhawks close the set to a 5-1 run and took the 2-0 lead.
 
The third set was back-and-forth early on but the Redhawks controlled the lead, 4-3. The Redhawks produced another run as they took eight in a row to push their lead to 12-3. Providence were not backing down as they fought tooth and nail until they close the gap to one, 20-21. The Argos were not able to keep the pressure on as the Redhawks tallied four more to the Argos three to close out the the deciding set and claim the win.
 
Sydney Andersen tallied eight kills, while teammate Melissa Gonzalez commanded the middle with a .556 hit percentage and five kills. On the defensive end, Ember Schwindt controlled the net with six blocks and Tymerie Vincelli tallied 13 digs. Freshman Cydney Finberg lead in assists with 15.
