GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The No. 23 University of Providence men's basketball team outscored the No. 10 Lewis-Clark Warriors, 48-36, during the final minutes of play to cap off a 89-76 upset.
Jalen Shepard led all scorers with 23 points, while also tallying four steals, four rebounds, and three assists.
Jaxen Hashley narrowly missed a double-double, while also crossing the 20-point mark with 22 points, eight boards, three assists, and a block.
Dana Abe led the Warriors with 21 points and followed closely by Damek Mitchell with 20 points. Mitchell also tallied a team-high five assists and five boards.
The Argos opened the match on an 11-6 run to take the early advantage. The Warriors quickly responded with a 17-7 run to take the lead, 23-18. The Warriors extended their lead to double digits following two Warrior free throws to make it 31-20 after 10 minutes of play. The Argos rallied to outscore LC 21-9 to retake the lead after the opening half, 41-40.
The Warriors tallied a field goal early in the second period to take the lead, 42-41. The Argos tied things up at 46, but LC managed to retake the lead, 48-46. Both teams battled until the Argos would tie things up one final time at 59. The Argos would control the final 13 minutes of play as they managed to outscore the Warriors, 30-17, to seal the Argos upset victory.
