GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The No. 13 Argos fell on Friday in an extremely close 65-63 match to the No. 16 Lewis-Clark Warriors.
Kenedy Cartwright led all scorers with 16 points, while pulling down three boards and a steal.
Emilee Maldonado followed closely behind with 14 points, while also tallying seven assists and four rebounds.
Parker Esary also tallied double-digit points and added five boards, an assist, and a steal.
Jossilyn Blackman and Abbie Johnson led the Warriors with double-digit scoring, notching 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Lewis-Clark opened the game on an 11-3 run to lead early. The Argos responded with a 10-2 run of their own to knot the game at 13. The Warriors tallied five-straight but a layup from Esary would bring the Argos back within three, 18-15, at the end of the first.
The Warriors would open the second period on an 8-4 rally to extend their lead to seven, 26-19. The Argos rallied back over the following two minutes to bring the game back to a tie at 28, but LC would notch five straight to take a 33-28 advantage headed into the break.
LCSC maintained the momentum in the third period as they would not relinquish their lead and would on a 4-0 run to take a six-point advantage into the final 10 minutes of play, 46-40. Over the first two and a half minutes of the final period, the Argos closed the gap and tied up the match at 49 following a 9-3 run. Kenedy Cartwright put the Argos back on top, 57-56. LC would eventually tie things back up at 61 with a minute and 40 seconds remaining. A Maldonado free throw gave the Argos the advantage, 62-61. However, the Warriors outscored the Argos, 4-2, to take the 65-63 victory.
