GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The No. 13 Argos (13-4, 2-3) went lock down mode in the final two minutes to close a four-point deficit and tally 10 unanswered in route to a 56-50 win over the MSU-Northern Skylights (8-9, 0-5) on Tuesday evening.
The University of Providence's
Kerstyn Pimperton garnered a game-high 15 points, while teammates
Emilee Maldonado and
Tristan Murphy joined her in double-digits with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Murphy narrowly missed a double-double as she collected nine rebounds, in addition to collecting two steals and two assists. Maldonado also grabbed six boards, while Pimperton tallied five.
The Skylights were led by Sydney Hovde, who tallied 13 points in the loss. Teammate Hailey Nicholson also tallied double-digits with 12 points.
The Argos took an early 5-2 lead, but the Skylights responded to tie things up at eight and 10 to take things into the second period even at 10.
Providence opened the second to seven-straight points to take a 17-10 lead, however the Skylights went on a 12-point run of their own to take a five-point advantage, 22-17. The Argos closed out the half on a 5-2 run to bring the game back within two, 24-22.
MSU-Northern extended their lead to as much as five in the third, 33-28, but a 5-0 run knotted things up at 33. The Skylights tallied four more to make it 37-33, before a 5-0 run for the Argos flipped the lead in favor of Providence headed into the final 10 minutes, 38-37.
Two more ties at 40 and 42 would leave the game even with seven minutes to play. The Skylights would control the next four minutes of clock to tally six points and take a 48-42 advantage. The Argos would eventually cut the deficit to two, 50-46, before going on a 10-0 run over the final one minute and 45 seconds to clock to take the victory over the MSU-Northern Skylights, 56-50.
