McLaughlin Shines on Senior Day

Great Falls, Mont. - Powered behind Eme McLaughlin's four goals, the University of Providence defeated Northwest Christian 7-0 on Saturday for senior day.

McLaughlin scored all her goals in the first half. Shawnae Inama and Shayenn Thompson also scored in the first half to give the Argos a 6-0 lead at the break. Soraya Alfaro scored in the second half for the Argos to make it 7-0.

"We came off a big win yesterday," McLaughlin said. "That was a big win for us and that momentum carried over into today. It was a super fun win and a super fun game for us."

Bri Wikert had three assists on the day. Shayenn Thompson had two and Adri Contreras had one. As a team, the Argos had 22 shots (15 on goal), compared to the Beacons 4 (3 on goal).

"We're starting to gel," head coach Brian Clarke said. "We had a tough two weeks on the road. We weren't getting the results we were fighting for. To come back home and get two big wins really puts us right back on track. It was a great weekend for the girls, they did really well."

Though the game was highlighted by McLaughlin's four goals, her fellow senior Isa Ortman also shined for the Argos, anchoring a strong defensive line.

"They've both been great for us," Clarke said. "They've been great for us all season long and even in their careers. We're really proud of them and thank them for everything they've given."

The Argos will hit the road again next week when they play Multnomah and Warner Pacific.

"It's been tough being on the road so much," Ortman said. "There's been a lot of ups and downs. We're fighting through them. We're really young and a lot of people are stepping up in their own ways. We still got a lot of season left to go. I have big expectations for this team."
